Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum

Located on the Northumberland coast you can find lots to see and do at Howick Hall Gardens & Arboretum. First of all you can wonder through the beautiful gardens. Maybe you would prefer to explore the secluded woodlands of the arboretum. In addition you can discover the history of the gardens and the Earl Grey family in the Visitor Centre. Enjoy a cup of Earl Grey Tea and a cake in the Earl Grey Tea House. Whether your local to the area or holidaying on the Northumberland Coast there’s always something to see at Howick Hall.

The Gardens

Always something new to see

The Gardens on the Northumberland Coast are best known for their spring bulbs and the Woodland Garden; there are also summer borders and a rockery specialising in summer plants. In addition the wild bog garden around a pond is at its peak in high summer.

The Arboretum

A United Nations of trees and shrubs

It is divided into two sections, the West Arboretum, which is the smaller and adjacent to the gardens, and The East Arboretum, which is much larger and leads down to the Northumberland Coast.

The history of the Hall, Gardens and Grey Family

The exhibition tells the story of how the gardens and arboretum have gently evolved through generations of passionate gardeners and plantsmen. In addition displays include some fascinating history about Earl Grey and his family members and their contribution to the gardens. As well as interesting facts about unusual trees and plants growing at Howick; and tales from plant hunting expeditions abroad.

There’s always time for tea!

The Earl Grey Tea House

Enjoy a cup of Earl Grey tea in our elegant Earl Grey Tea House under the watchful gaze of Earl Grey himself. The Teahouse is open whenever the gardens are, exclusively for visitors to Howick Hall. The Earl Grey Teahouse offers a full range of teas and hot coffee, as well as cakes, scones and the infamous Earl Grey tealoaf. Light lunches are served daily, together with a specials boards, which offer dishes in addition to that offerd from the standard menu. All of which are served to you by our friendly staff.

Please note that the tearoom is open to garden visitors only - last orders 5.30pm in main season, and 3.30pm in early late seasons.

*includes a 10% voluntary Gift Aid donation
